What is an Animal Health Certificate AHC
An AHC is required for dogs, cats, and ferrets traveling from Great Britain to the EU or Northern Ireland. It confirms your pet is microchipped, vaccinated, and fit to travel.
What do I need to get an AHC
To issue an AHC, we will need
– A working ISO-compliant microchip scanned before rabies vaccination
– Proof of up-to-date rabies vaccination must be at least 21 days old
– Your pet’s details breed, age, sex, color
– Your contact details and travel information destination, travel date, transport method
– A general health check to confirm your pet is fit to travel
How long is an AHC valid
– 10 days for entry into the EU or Northern Ireland
– 4 months for travel within the EU
– 4 months for return to the UK
When should I book an appointment for an AHC
We recommend scheduling your appointment no more than 10 days before travel, with enough time for processing and checks.
What is an Export Health Certificate EHC
An EHC is required for the commercial export of animals or animal products from the UK. It certifies that the export meets the health standards of the destination country.
What do I need for an EHC
To issue an EHC, we require
– Pets details, ID, quantity
– Exporter and premises information
– Destination country and import requirements
– Inspection by an Official Veterinarian OV
– Any necessary lab testing, vaccination, or treatments
– Your contact details and travel information destination, travel date, transport method
Who can issue an EHC
Only an Official Veterinarian OV, specially authorised to do so, can issue and sign an EHC. Our clinic has qualified OVs on staff.
